Strengthened in Faith – Part 1

strengthened by faith

My dear brothers and sisters, calvary greetings. As the lockdown continues,  I encourage you to be strengthened in faith. I feel it is appropriate that we remain steadfast in standing on the promises of God that this year and decade is the best we have ever seen.

First of all, though we are all eager to return to normalcy, the data from the COVID 19 fight is still not encouraging and I will not be surprised if the lockdown is further extended. Be that as it may, we must remain steadfast in our belief that God will see us through

As we do this, I want to share a short word on some scriptures I have been meditating on Romans 4:20 – He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief but was strengthened in faith giving glory to God

Firstly, for there to be strengthening, it means there are levels of strength involved. Faith is in levels; we are strengthened in faith gradually.

First we have the state of the absence of knowledge as we cannot believe what we don’t know. (Romans 10:14)

Then we have another group that can not yet be strengthened in faith as they are not yet persuaded. This means they know but do not believe. All head knowledge is in this category. (Hebrews 4:2)

It’s important to note that the absence of faith as seen in the two categories above signify that the walk of faith is yet to commence for without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Little faith,

Little faith refers to the level of Faith that tends to doubt in the presence of negative circumstances. (Matthew 14:31). Many of us may already be doubting whether this year will be good in the current circumstances.

Great faith

Those said to have great faith have developed their faith to the level that believes the promises of God regardless of negative circumstances. They choose to see beyond the physical. The Centurion in Matthew 8 shows us the characteristics of great faith. His words showed amazing confidence in Jesus. His words also reflect an understanding of authority and assurance in the power of the spoken word

Matthew 8:10 When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

Exceeding great faith

This is the level of being strengthened in Faith that we all aspire to dwell in.  This faith believes God despite all and any circumstance, oppositions, or anything contrary. 2 Thessalonians 1:3  talks about faith that is increasing exceedingly.
