In the Mind of the Creator (The Plan of God) – Part 1

There is a really old saying which says, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” What this means is that nothing is created without a definite purpose. Light bulbs were created because we need a source of illumination, cars were created because there was a need for transportation, houses were built because there was a need for shelter, and so on.

This goes for every last one of us – we were created for a purpose. A purpose only the Creator knows. In essence, the God who created us knows why He did and we were made with built-in tools to fulfill that very purpose.

Now the question many ask is, “how can I know what God’s plan for my life really is? This is such a loaded question. Well I have discovered seven basic keys to knowing God’s will and plans. Let’s dive into them now:

Build a relationship with God.

This seems like a very obvious first step but sadly most of us miss it. We lean on our parents for direction, we ask the elders or look at the most “successful” career path or we simply decide to go wherever the wind blows us. All the while ignoring the Creator. It’s like ignoring the manufacturer’s manual for the BMW 507 and expecting it to function optimally. Without an understanding of how this beautiful car works we are heading for a major car crash.

The sensible thing to do is to build a relationship with God and ask Him what His blueprint for your life is. I can assure You He will reveal it to You. The easiest way to do this is by spending time in His presence and seek His face.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Surrender to God’s will

Most times when we say we are seeking God’s will, what we are saying is: “Dear Lord, here’s what I want, and here are my plans. Now I need you to agree with me and approve it”. This will certainly not work. A car cannot decide to be on the water neither can a ship request to function on land.

It makes all the sense in the world to surrender to the Creator’s program.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

Practice Obedience

A very high portion of how we are to live is found in the Bible. Many people want to know what they believe to be the specific plans of God for them but ignore the foundational concepts found in the Bible. The Bible is a very detailed manual provided by the Creator.

If we do not obey the things that God has shown us clearly to be His will (the written Word), why would we think He would reveal any further information regarding His specific plan for our lives? Obedience is vitally important.

Pay attention to your gifts and talents

Not only has God created us to fulfill specific roles in this world but we have to realize that our purpose is embedded within us. God who created us with the tools in us to fulfill our purpose. There is no one else who can achieve completely what God has purposely created you to do.

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10

God has gifted every one of us with the ability to perform a unique task or series of tasks. Just as our fingerprints are completely different, likewise our assignments are specific. How cool is that? Incredible.

Quite a number of us have the tendency to focus on what gifts and talents others have and foolishly disdain and disregard ours. This is a huge mistake. We must always pay very close to our innate skills, list them out, and study them with a sense of awe and gratitude. The Creator’s plan for us will always be related to the gifts that He poured into every one of us.
