Strengthened in Faith – Part 2 (what weakens our faith)

Calvary greetings in Jesus Name. Further to our previous talk on Strengthened in Faith (Click here for part 1) where we focused on the fact that for there to be a strengthening of faith, there must be levels or stages of faith. In part 2, we want to look at a few things that weaken our faith.

Taking our eyes and focus from God

The first activity that we are sometimes tempted to indulge in is taking our eyes off God and focusing on our negative circumstances. Matthew 14:30 tells Peter story, “But when he (Peter) saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink…”. Even now, in this challenging season with the pandemic, many are focused on COVID-19, others are focused on hunger, on security challenges, etc, instead of focusing on the word of God. Whatever you pay attention to dominates your thoughts and your heart

Listening to and Speaking Negative Words

Secondly, if we listen to and speak negative words then we are bound to weaken our faith. In Genesis 3:1 Eve allowed herself to have a conversation with the devil (who is a confirmed liar by the way) and as a result of that small talk Eve began to question what God had said. Many of us are questioning the word of God rather than believing and declaring it and that never turns out good. Continuing in that path always leads to destruction and regret. We must learn to listen to and declare only the Word at all times and in every situation. Only the Word of God brings change and victory. Until God declared “let there be light“, darkness reigned. The poor need to declare that “I am rich” because Jesus paid the price (2 Corinthians 8:9). The single sister needs to declare that “none shall lack her mate so I cannot lack mine”(Isaiah 34:16). The married sister believing God for children needs to declare that “no one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in the land” (Exodus 23:26). The sick need to declare that He Himself took away my infirmities (Matthew 8:17) etc.

The Voice of “Reason”

Thirdly, we weaken our faith by the voice of reason. In Matthew 16:23, the devil through Peter spoke to Jesus and tried to persuade Him to be “reasonable” but Jesus knew better. Whenever the voice of reason is contrary to the word of God, that voice is demonic and its goal is to weaken your faith and cause you to stumble. The world is expecting and experiencing an economic meltdown but if you will believe, our God will supply all our needs in Jesus’ Name regardless of the physical evidence to the contrary.

Failure to abhor Sin

Fourthly, we weaken our faith when we do not abhor sin. Sin is poison from the pits of hell. We must consciously reject sin and embrace the love of God in all our lives. (Romans 12:9)

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. (Romans 12:9)

Walking in the Flesh

Finally, walking in the flesh weakens our faith. “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace Romans 8:5-6.” Let’s walk in the spirit and focus our minds on the things of the spirit. Let’s not run around like everyone else whose only conversation is to complain about COVID, lockdown, hunger virus, bad government, etc. Let it be unto you according to your faith. Let’s start confessing our great future, great families, great children, great businesses, great careers, great finances, etc.

God bless you all in Jesus Name!!!
